Why Getting Rid of Bed Bugs by Yourself is Never a Great Idea

Imagine this, you wake up in the morning, and you suddenly feel itchy on several parts of your body. You scratch these small red rashes that pop up almost everywhere — on your limbs, your hands, your back. You think maybe a mosquito or two bit you. The next morning, you find more rows of rashes and they’re itchy than ever. It may be time to realize that you might have a bed bug infestation.

Bed bugs are parasitic pests that feed on the blood of warm blooded mammals, like humans. They’re called such because they mostly inhabit beds, sofas, and soft home furnishings. Most people think that bed bugs may only be a small problem and they don’t really require bed bugs treatment or any drastic measures. They just simply change their sheets, or spray the beds with rubbing alcohol or place them under the heat of the sun to kill the bugs. But really, how to get rid of bed bugs takes more than just that. And most often than not, doing your own bed bugs treatment is not the best of ideas.

Here are some reasons why a DIY bed bug treatment is not the answer to your problem:

First, bed bugs are great hiders. They hate sunlight and they mostly feed an hour before sunset, which means they usually come out at dawn. Plus, they are great at hiding, so even if you catch one or two, most often than not, there are more of them hiding in places that are not visible to you.

Second, bed bug nymphs or baby bed bugs are translucent, which means you can’t see them. While adult bed bugs are the size of an apple seed, these translucent baby bugs are much smaller, which means you virtually can’t see them with your naked eye.

Third, the use and overuse of chemical pesticides can be harmful to your health. Remember, bed bugs dwell on your living space, which means you’ll be lying down and spending hours staying put on your bed or sofa, exposing you to the harmful chemicals that you spray on your home furnishings.

Fourth, popular and common bed bug heat treatments can potentially cause fire, especially if you do not know how to use them.

Fifth, by using pesticides and chemicals, the bed bugs will actually build an immune system that will make them resistant to the chemicals in the long run. So no matter how much cans of pesticide spray you use, it will never be effective.

Forget DIY, successful bed bug extermination requires professional service. A professional treatment even requires more than one session, what more if you do it yourself? Professionals have the knowledge and experience of getting rid of these pests that lead to physical discomfort and inflammation. Even after a seemingly successful extermination, a follow up inspection is needed to make sure that the infestation is completely gone. Some professional exterminators even use the services of sniffing dogs that can smell bed bugs on your bed, sofa, and other home furniture.

Before your bed bug problem can become a complete disaster, call your local pest exterminator for an effective and successful pest control management that will get rid of all your pest control problems.
